アイスランドは長い間、野生の蚊が確認されていない世界で唯一の国として知られていましたが、その記録は2025年10月に終わりを迎えたようです。科学者たちは、温暖化によって、これまで蚊の生存と繁殖を妨げてきたアイスランドの自然条件が弱まりつつある可能性があると考えています。

Iceland was long known as the world’s only country with no confirmed wild mosquitoes, but that record appeared to end in October 2025. Scientists believe Iceland’s warming climate may be weakening the natural conditions that once prevented mosquitoes from surviving and reproducing there.

【Standing water（止水）】 — Standing water is water that remains still in places such as ponds, pools, or wetlands and can provide a breeding place for mosquitoes.

【Freeze-thaw cycle（凍結と解凍のサイクル）】 — A freeze-thaw cycle is a repeated process in which water or ground freezes and then melts as temperatures rise and fall.
